Korean School Horror Films

One of my favorite korean horror genre is the school horror theme. Not because I have some kind of uniform fetish. Partly, I was after this nostalgic vibe where fragile innocence is on the verge of being torn to bits.

Bushinsaba (Ouija Board)

Nobody likes being bullied at school, but when you ask help from an ouija board. You might find yourself in a horrendous situation. While it may have been a decent film, we couldn’t help but laugh at the serious accident scene where a supposedly dead extra appeared to be alive. That since might have been cut in the dvd release since we were watching it at cinema.

A journalist managed to get away from her pesky stalker by changing her phone number. Unfortunately getting a cursed phone number isn’t exactly what she bargained for. Turns out that a high school girl formerly owned the number. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata gave the film an eeirie atmosphere. I wonder if ringtone companies made a killing after the movie was released.

Second installment of the Whispering Corridors. You how it is when students in all girls school tend to have sapphic desires for each other meets in tragic end. I’m really not into lesbian themed movies but this one managed to make the taboo subject into something ethereal and at the same time hearbreaking.

The third installment of Whispering Corridors. Jin-seong finally snapped when her best friend unfairly took away the scholarship that she wanted all her life. Green-eyed monster lurks deeps inside your consciousness when your bestfriend’s got everything you could always ask for. This is one of my favorite korean horror, I could relate in some ways, like getting insanely envious when somebody snags something that should have been mine.
