WICKED SHIRTS!
The Machine Girl – Japanese Movie Review

Who would have thought that a schoolgirl + gattling gun = bloody brillant. At first glance “The Machine Girl” movie reminds me of “Planet Terror”. The Grindhouse feature where Rose McGowan’s amputated leg was substituted with a machine gun. Has amputee fetish went up a notch?
SYNOPSIS
Ami was a typical japanese school girl who lived a normal life. But underneath the calm and carefree exterior lies a vulnerable girl trying to move on from her parent’s tragic death. That pretty much leaves her and her brother to fend for themselves. Unfortunately her brother got into trouble with the son of Yakuza. Eventually that led him to a grim death. She did her best to bring justice to her brother’s death in a peaceful way. Unfortunately, not only did she accused of belonging to a murderous family (Which she isnt). Her arm got fried into tempura as well. The tempura arm was the last straw and that got her very first taste of murder. When she finally got the lead on the mastermind behind her brother’s death. Ami then accepted her fate as murderer and calls herself the devil. She begins her personal vendetta in bringing the Hanzo Hattori Yakuza group down.

VERDICT
Watching this film really triggered different sorts of emotions namely sadness, disgust, anger, joy, laughter and relief. I can see why “Machine Girl” became an instant cult classic. Aside from gore, I love the bad ass murderous persona of the girl. No bullshit around with theatrical drama. She really enjoys the thrill of pulverizing her enemies to bits. Like all Tokyo Shock films, the production and special effects are a bit more like B-movie. Think of Ed Wood with a higher budget. But don’t let the cheesy moments discourage you. The absurdness of some situations can be really entertaining. For instance the tempura scene where I nearly fell off my chair from laughing. For a while I’m a bit lost if I’m still watching a thriller or a comedy film.
Sadako Rating:
Fear Factor: 7 out of 10 – No scary monsters or ghost but there are moments where you really want to close your eyes due to too much gore.
Violence and Gore: 10 out 10 – From start to finish, it’s all about gore and blood bath.
Nudity and Sex: 0 – The movie is such a tease, gets you thinking lecherous thoughts and nothing happens.
Replay value: Definitely a must see when spending the night at a friend’s house.
