The Omega Man – Hollywood Thriller Review

If you can’t get enough of the movie adaptation of “I am Legend”, you might want to check out “The Omega Man”.
SYNOPSIS
It’s been two years since the biological warfare has nearly wiped out the entire human race. Only Military Scientist Dr. Neville remained as the only human being immuned from the plague. The rest of the infected survivors has turned into light sensitive albino who had misdirected hated toward human civilization. Former newscaster Mathias is the self proclaimed leader of the infected colony who call themselves “The Family”. The Family see Dr. Neville as relic of the past who must be destroyed. Neville was able to secure himself in the fortified fortress which protected him from frequent nocturnal attacks by the family. A chance meeting with Lisa led him to other group of humans who were infected with disease but the symptoms haven’t manifested yet. Dr. Neville decides to concoct an antidote serum to cure the group. He was able to treat Lisa’s infected brother. The situation looks grim with “The Family” plotting against him. Neville’s time is certainly running out.
VERDICT
Compared to Vincent Price’s eerie version “Last Man on Earth”, “The Omega Man” is campy and may be considered a B-film. Instead of zombie vampires pandering around at night, there’s Charles Manson inspired cult known as “The Family”. The cult are very much hell bent in destroying civilization and start a new one. Seriously, there’s hundreds of them and yet they had a hard time bringing Neville down.
The appeal of the film is the situational aspect what it felt like to be the last person on earth. Just trying to cope up living day after day in same old routine alone. Charlton Heston fits in the role perfectly. Had the plot holes scenes ironed out, then it might have been a cult classic. Nonetheless, the film was very enjoyable despite it’s flaws.
Sadako Rating:
Fear Factor: 5 out of 10 – I’ve got nothing to complain about the eerie ambience. But zombies brings much more fear factor to the film.
Violence and Gore: 5 out 10 – There’s substantial violence and gore
Nudity and Sex: 5 – Yup there’s a few tidbits, the usual Titz and Ass. Well it’s 1970′s.
Replay value: Best viewed on the rainy weather or late in the evening.
