Hostel – Eurotrip gone awry

Quentin Tarantino presents a hyperviolent sadistic gore fest. Naah, he didn’t actually direct the movie. They just love to slap his name around like a label to sell it. Anyway the movie is about three friends embarking on a journey to Europe, a trip full of debauchery and excesses. They got more than what they expected in Bratislava.
SYNOPSIS
Three backpacking tourists namely Paxton, Josh and Oli embarks on a Euro trip in search for the best place to smoke bong, indulge in hottest girls and have a great time. Unfortunately for Pax and Josh, they didn’t have much luck in hooking up with women in Amsterdam. However, a chance encounter with a ratty looking guy named Alex convinced them to check out Bratislava promising them that’s where the hottest girls are at. Without hesitation, the three of them find themselves in a train going to Bratislava. A mysterious dutch businessman sat down besides them in the train. He offends Josh by touching his thigh, he went out of the place when Josh screamed at him.
Finally, they reached their destination and was impressed at the hostel. At their new place they met with two lovely local ladies. They went out clubbing, have a bit of an ecstasy and finally got laid. The next morning, their friend Oli seemed to disappeared along with a Japanese girl. Josh and Paxton were puzzle that their friend left them without leaving a note or a call. The two of them went on with their clubbing while at the same time worrying over their friend Oli. When it was Josh’s turn to disappear, Paxton got suspicious when the receptionist claimed that both him and Josh has already checked out of the hostel. Determined to get to the bottom of things, will Paxton find his friends and escape Bratislava in one piece?
VERDICT
This movie’s got everything a perverted sadist could ever want, sizzling sex and lots of gore. There’s the stereotypical american tourists wandering in pot and pussy capital in Amsterdam. The movie doesn’t have anything much going on besides watching a bunch of guys trying to get laid at the redlight district. Strangely, in the first part of the film, Josh smokes pot and then in the other part of film he turns out to be asthmatic guy who hates cigarette smoke. They finally got a bit of poontang after travelling all the way to obscure city called Bratislava. I have no idea such city in Europoe existed. Definitely not a flattering idea to be known as the place where there’s easy poontang and good place to butcher humans. The last half of film gives you the adrenaline rush. You know, the kind of feeling where each of your nails are slowly being pulled off one by one. Funny thing is that the film was actually marketed as “based on actual events”. I wonder which part is based on actual event.
Sadako Rating:
Fear Factor: 8 out of 10 – What happens at the last half of the film can really make you jump out of your seat.
Violence and Gore: 7 out 10 – If you got a thing for butchering corpses, this movie is definitely for you. Despite the hype for it, it failed to reach the 80% gore fest that I was expecting.
Nudity and Sex: 8 – Boobiez buffet and lots of simulated sex. It’s pretty much hovering toward pornography.
Replay value: There’s not much interest for me to watch it again. I like the film’s soundtrack though.
