One of Eva Peron’s greatest fear was to be forgotten. Her husband obliged to her wishes and decided to have her body preserved for eternity. Initially, he had planned to create a mausoleum thrice the size of statue of liberty but the idea did not materialized due to uprising revolution. Juan Peron comissioned Spanish Pathologist Dr Pedro Ara to preserve her body. Dr. Ara specialized in preserving lifelike corpse. He used Glycerine to replace the blood, the corpse then. It took 2 years to completely preserve Eva’s body and vital organs including the brain.

Unfortunately the revolution drove Juan Peron to flee to Spain. He left behind the corpse of Eva Peron. The new government decided to have her body buried in Milan Italy under an alias “Maria Maggi” to prevent people from making her grave a shrine. After more than 14 years of being buried in Milan. Her body was then exhumed and had been flown to Juan Peron’s residence in Spain. The grave diggers were taken to a surprise when they see Eva’s perfectly preserved body that they exclaimed, “It’s a miracle”. When her corpse was examined, she was still perfectly preserved even after 20 years of her death.

When Juan Peron died in of heart attack. His third wife Isabel who took over his place decided that Eva Peron’s body flown in from Spain to be buried at the Duarte family tomb at the La Recoleta Cementary in Argentina.

Evita: The Woman Behind the Myth

Many years after her death, there’s numerous debates about her being a saint or a sinner. Some claimed that Eve Peron’s a Nazi sympathizer and other claimed that she’s a manipulative power hungry woman. Nobody knows the real truth. Whether a sinner or a saint, Eva Peron will certainly not be forgotten.

I was familiar with Eva Peron as a historical figure but I had never known about her perfectly preserved corpse. It was interesting that in both her lifetime and in her death, she has endured much tumultuous journey.
